Stephanie and Timothy Chow: A Story of Determination and Growth

Stephanie and Timothy Chow: A Story of Determination and Growth

As a parent, I believe in empowering my children to embrace challenges and discover their full potential. My daughter, Stephanie, is a testament to this approach.

Having studied in a local primary school in Hong Kong where Cantonese was the primary language of instruction, Stephanie took on the challenge of transitioning to UK schools that use English as the medium of instruction.

With my guidance, she prepared for Grammar School admission tests, independent school interviews, and adapted quickly to the UK curriculum. Stephanie’s willingness to embrace challenges, along with her respect for her schoolteachers’ guidance and the personalized support from her tutors, helped her build confidence and thrive. Her dedication was recognized with multiple scholarships and awards in her current school.

Stephanie’s Achievements:

  • St Pauls Convent School Scholarship, Hong Kong (S.1-2, equivalent to Year 7-8 in the UK education system)
  • Cranbrook School (Grammar School) Humanities Scholarship (Year 9)
  • St Mary’s School Cambridge Creative Writing Scholarship (Year 9)
  • St Mary’s School Cambridge Humanities Award (Year 9)
  • Offered St Mary’s School Cambridge Foundation 50% Scholarship for Sixth Form (Year 10)
  • Offer for Sixth Form at The Perse School (Year 10)

Timothy Chow: Overcoming challenges and Unlocking potential

When Timothy settled in the UK, he coped well with the primary curriculum, but by Year 5, he struggled with English writing, making frequent grammatical mistakes. Though he wished to improve on his own, I encouraged him to try our English tutor. Within a few months, his writing improved dramatically, earning praise from his school teacher and boosting his confidence.

Finding the Maths curriculum too simple, I encouraged him to challenge himself with a tutor. This year, he excelled in his admission tests, securing a place at The Perse School for Year 7 and earning a scholarship offer from another secondary school. His hard work and perseverance have set a strong foundation for his next steps.

Timothy’s achievements:

  • Awarded Conduct Award and Academic Excellence Award in Ying Wa Primary School (Primary 2 of HK curriculum)
  • Offered Stephen Perse School 50% Scholarship for Year 7 & 8 (Year 6)
  • Offer for Year 7 place at The Perse School (Year 6)
